Summerland Girl blooms with an astonishing 21 large, waxy, bright red flowers with contrasting purple-red lips. The plant is 2' tall and, when in bloom, the inflorescence adds an extra foot - really spectacular! Oconee (C. Belle of Celle x Blc. Norman's Bay) is a classic Cattleya famous for its ability to breed well shaped flowers with dark burgundy purple lips. Of special note is that the cultivar ‘Iwata’ is a remake using the original Belle of Celle, however Norman’s Bay ‘Low’ was the other parent rather than ‘Lucile’ in the original grex. ‘Iwata’ is vigorous - it’s always in growth - and blooms 3 to 4 times per year, plus it’s more compact growing than ‘Mendenhall’. As of this writing ‘Iwata’ has already bloomed twice this year, and it’s only March! We know these will be robust plants with big flowers in deep red colors and dark burgundy lips. We expect mature plants to produce 10 or more flowers. These are two classic Catts working together to create a new neoclassic hybrid. Bred by Keith Davis - well done!
