Hybrid seedling plant in a 50mm tube.

Schroeder's Catt (C. Ruth Gee x C. schroederae) has magnificent white flowers, with a full lip and yellow throat. Arctic Moon (Lc. Mini Purple x Lc. Janet) ‘Rochelle’ might be the best white mini-Catt so far. The lip is full in shape with the column completely covered by the side lobes, thanks to the influence of L. pumila in its breeding. This gives the flower a more standard Cattleya look; the plants are just 6” tall with flowers 3.5” across!  Pure white compact-Catts are few and far between. When is the last time you saw one that did not look a lot like C. walkeriana?  This cross will achieve several goals: a tubular lip shape, pure white colour, and a very large flower size on a compact Cattleya-sized plant. We are quite interested in seeing how these will bloom out. This is a completely new breeding direction for compact-Catts!

Imported Seedling from Sunset Valley Orchids, USA. Picture shows the parent of this cross. The above description was written by Fred Clarke and details the expectation of this hybrid.
