Hybrid seedling plant in a 50mm tube.

Sacramento Rose (Lc. Mini Purple x L. alaorii) was made by Alan Koch of Gold Country orchids. I was fortunate to have Alan point it out to me while visiting his nursery. I bought several and they were all excellent with dark purple flowers on mini-Catt plants and they bloomed 2 and often 3 times a year.  Orpetii (Soph. coccinea x L. pumila) 'Hidden Treasure 4N’ is also from the breeding of Alan Koch. Its dark purple-red flowers are as wide as the plant is tall, it blooms in the winter and again in the early spring, it’s a vigorous grower and the plant develops multiple leads easily.  I suspect Alan must have thought about making this cross and possibly he did.   These have all the potential to be one of the best purple flowered minis.  We expect plants to be 4-5” tall, with proportionally large flowers of excellent shape in dark purples and blooming twice a year…. Yep a winner.

Imported Seedling from Sunset Valley Orchids, USA. Picture shows the parent of this cross. The above description was written by Fred Clarke and details the expectation of this hybrid.
