Barrita Orchids
Cattleya Orchid Seedling SVO 10382 (Slc. Seagulls Apricot 'Magnifique' x Lc. Sacramento Rose 'SVO Royal Purple' HCC/AOS)
Hybrid seedling plant in a 50mm tube.
This new hybrid will be like the successful cross Sacramento Jewel (Slc. Tangerine Jewel x Lc. Sacramento Rose), sadly I can’t re-make Sacramento Jewel as I sent my plant of Tangerine Jewel to plant heaven….. The flower colour of Seagulls Apricot (Slc. California Apricot x Soph. coccinea) is a unique, intense orange red, the flower shape is very full, and the plants are small, standing about 5” tall. Sacramento Rose (Lc. Mini Purple x L. alaorii) was made by Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids. I was fortunate to have Alan point it out to me while visiting his nursery. I bought several and they were all excellent with dark purple flowers on mini-Catt plants and they bloomed 2 and often 3 times a year. We are expecting by crossing it to Seagulls Apricot will give the results as with Tangerine Jewel, producing flowers with wide, round petals with flower colours tending more to the to the red purples. Plants will stand 4” tall and begin to bloom in 3” pots
Imported Seedling from Sunset Valley Orchids, USA. Picture shows the parent of this cross. The above description was written by Fred Clarke and details the expectation of this hybrid.
