Hybrid seedling plant in a 50mm tube.
Every once and a while inspiration strikes…I have had these two plants in my collection for years and always admired them individually, after a review of their breeding lines, the light bulb went off. Both Tropical Rainbow (Lc. Commander x Lc. Tropic Glow) and Tropical Sunset (C. Horace x Lc. Tropic Glow) each have one parent Commander and Horace which are large classic shaped standard Cattleya flowers in soft lavender and darker lip. Both share Tropic Glow as a parent with starry shaped red flowers presented on a strong inflorescence showing lots of influence of its ancestor L. milleri. The attractive flowers of Tropical Rainbow are a plum red with deep red lips and yellow throats, they are produced 5-7 on sturdy stems above the foliage and the large flowers of Tropical Sunset are orange with bold red lips produced 5-7 on strong stems. The ‘insight light bulb’ the genetic makeup of the cross has all the potential to produce 5-7, large flowers in orange-red colors, full red lips with contrasting bright yellow throats, well-arranged on strong upright inflorescences, all from compact plants. Inspired!
Imported Seedling from Sunset Valley Orchids, USA. Picture shows the parent of this cross. The above description details the expectation of this hybrid.
